The public nearly melted after witnessing a shocking video capturing Princess Charlotte RIDING THE UNDERGROUND FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME
Princess Charlotte looks ‘amazed’ as she travels on tube with Princess Kate – see video
The Princess of Wales and her daughter, 11, ditched their chauffeur-driven motorcade for the Elizabeth Line to travel into central London on Saturday
he Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte proved they’re just like any other mother-daughter duo as they hopped on the train for a girls’ day out on Saturday.
Catherine, 44, and her 11-year-old daughter were spotted by a fellow commuter as they travelled on the apt Elizabeth line through Central London, with a source telling HELLO! that Charlotte looked almost “amazed” as she looked around the carriage.
The pair were seen seated on TfL’s newest tube line – opened during the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee year – with their security detail, and surrounded by other members of the public.
A source tells us: “They spoke to members of the public sitting across from them. They had security with them and Catherine held Charlotte’s hand getting off at Tottenham Court Road. The security didn’t make it obvious they were there and they tried to make it as ‘normal’ as possible.
“Catherine had her phone with her and was looking at her phone for a couple of minutes. They seemed very relaxed and were chatting together, smiling. It was a brief interaction with people opposite them but they seemed very happy.”
Catherine looked to be wearing a burgundy outfit and matching heels for their outing, with the pair disembarking at Tottenham Court Road.
It’s not known where they were travelling to, but the mother-daughter duo has previously enjoyed several trips to the ballet together, including a performance by The Royal Ballet School at Opera Holland Park in July.
While the Princess of Wales was a regular on the tube in her pre-royal days, it marked a rare appearance for Princess Charlotte, who is in Year 8 at Lambrook Preparatory School in Berkshire. Typically, the royals are chaperoned in motorcades or utilise their private helicopters.
Catherine marked the 150th anniversary of the London Underground with the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at Baker Street station in 2013. The royal, who was pregnant with Prince George at the time, admitted during the engagement that she “missed” travelling on public transport.
The Prince and Princess of Wales also surprised fellow commuters when they rode on the Elizabeth line for the first time to travel to a pub in Soho to learn how London workers were preparing for King Charles’s coronation in 2023.
