Father and Teenage Son Remain in Hospital After Masked Men Attack Family Home in Thurnby

Police say the investigation into a serious assault in Leicestershire is making significant progress, with officers ruling out a wider threat to the public at this stage.

A father and his 15-year-old son remain in hospital receiving specialist care after two masked men entered their family home and attacked its occupants in Thurnby, Leicestershire.

In an update issued on October 14, Leicestershire Police said both victims, a man in his 50s and his teenage son, were in a stable condition, although their injuries had initially been described as life-threatening.

The incident occurred shortly before 12.30am on Thursday, October 8, at a property on Station Road, near the junction with Somerby Road. Police were called after reports that two masked men had entered the house and assaulted the people inside.

The boy’s mother, a woman in her 40s, also sustained minor injuries. Three other children who were present in the home escaped without injury.

Investigation continues after extensive searches

Detectives from Leicestershire Police and the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) have been carrying out extensive enquiries in the surrounding area in an effort to identify and locate the suspects.

Police confirmed that searches of the nearby area have now been completed. Officers are continuing to pursue investigative leads and examine any information that could help establish what happened and who was responsible.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, who is leading the investigation, said the inquiry was progressing significantly. She also confirmed that specially trained officers were continuing to provide support to the family.

Although the investigation remains active, police have stressed that there is currently no information indicating a wider risk to the public.

Police address concerns among local residents

The violent incident has understandably caused concern in Thurnby and neighbouring communities, particularly because it took place inside a family home during the night.

Police have sought to reassure residents that investigators do not believe anyone other than the two men who entered the property was involved in the attack.

Officers have also said there is currently no evidence to suggest the incident was motivated by race or religion.

The motive remains under investigation, and detectives have not publicly established why the family was targeted.

Family continues to receive support

The father and son are receiving specialist medical treatment, while the woman injured during the incident has been discharged from hospital.

The three children who were not injured have also been accounted for. Police said specially trained officers remain in contact with the family to provide assistance during what is likely to be an extremely difficult period.

Detectives are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack, including any information that might help explain how the two suspects entered the property and what happened before they left.

Detectives continue to pursue those responsible

The latest update indicates that the investigation has advanced since the attack, although the two suspects have not been publicly identified in the police statement.

Officers continue to focus on gathering evidence and locating the men believed to have entered the property.

For the family and the local community, the priority remains the recovery of the injured father and son and the identification of those responsible. Police have reiterated that anyone with information can still come forward as enquiries continue.
